Brief Overview

Donna Thomas, an independent photographer based in Northern Ireland, wished to start her online presence journey to show and sell her work through her own online store.

Digital Rhapsody worked with her to establish a perfect solution which would ensure the site would become a valuable tool within her business and not a hindrance.

Website Design

As we were starting completely from scratch, we were able to work with Donna to decide specifically how she wished her workflow to be with her new site. As she wished to start selling her work online through her own store, this meant we had to produce a secure experience for her customers, which didn’t overpower the display of the work itself.

As imagery is the core of Donna’s business, we wished to make her photos the centre of attention, with little distractions. To achieve this, we decided on a clean sidebar menu system, allowing a wide canvas for her work to be displayed fully. We also implemented some security measures to ensure her work was as safe as possible, and a “pop-up” system which dulled the website, so customers can view the full image clearly and uninterrupted.

Site Design Highlights

Clean & Understated Design

Our design was purposefully understated to ensure maximum impact from Donna’s work to show through. The colour palette was chosen to be as non-distracting as possible.

Pop-up views

The art pieces have been designed to be clicked, and to be viewed in their full glory. In pop-up mode, the website greys out, to once again ensure maximum impact for the work.

Secure Shopping Experience

To create a shopping experience online there are many options. Donna decided she wished to use PayPal as the payment solution for her shop, eliminating further expenses on her new venture, as she was “testing the waters”.

Clean Grids for Work

After several iterations for the layout of her gallery, we decided a simple and clean grid with wide white borders would most recreate the feeling of an art gallery.

Work Protection

We implemented a protection system to ensure people were less likely to be able to steal Donna’s work. Unfortunately, like most things online, there is never a 100% fix to this problem – however the security measures seem to be working well.

Portfolio View

In here Portfolio section of her website, we gave her another design. Allowing here to showcase a selection of choice photos from an event, with a written introduction.
